Jumping  Welcome to the Lake Michigan Hunter/Jumper Association. LMHJA promotes the sport of horsemanship through equitation, hunters and jumpers in the traditional English-style of riding.

The Association includes members from Michigan, Indiana and Illinois.

LMHJA horse show facilities are governed by the rules of the Association and USA Equestrians and may include divisions held in two rings, often called the "Regular" ring and the "Basic" ring.

The Regular Ring is designed for the more experienced horse and/or rider. Hunter divisions include three over fences and one under saddle class per horse show. Fence heights range from 2'3" to 3'3". Equitation divisions follow the same fence height and have one over fences and one under saddle class per horse show. Jumper divisions  have two over fence classes and range in height from 2'9" to 3'9".

Happy dayThe Basic Ring is designed for the less experienced horse and/or rider. Divisions are in hunters and equitation and follow the Regular Ring in size, with a fence height starting with crossrails and having divisions up to 2'3".

Though horse shows run with two rings for convenience of fence height, classes do not run at the same time, with shows starting with one ring, and following immediately with the other.

The Regular Ring and Basic Ring also include medal classes designed to improve riders' skills over a more advanced equitation type course.

The LMHJA show season runs from May through September and is open to members and non-members. Members of the Association earn points throughout the season to qualify for year-end championships to be honored at the LMHJA Banquet held in November.
